P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute is pleased to announce the release of the long-awaited book, RIO Rock in Opposition. The publication will be launched by Tadej Pogačar and Igor Bašin on Monday, 2 December 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in P74 Gallery, Trg prekomorskih brigad 1, 1000 Ljubljana.
Following the SOG monograph, RIO Rock in Opposition is the second publication in THE SEVENTIES series, which examines the countercultural segment of Slovenia’s often overlooked culture from the 1970s. The new publication is the first to highlight the rock-in-opposition movement in Slovenia.
Begnagrad, Srp, and D’Pravda, three non-conformist and distinctly unique music bands, emerged in Slovenia in the second half of the 1970s and early 1980s. They were known for their emphasis on experimentation and genre-bending in their music, as well as a multimedial approach to public performances. They also developed a specific visual expression in the design of posters, album covers, scenography, stage paintings, and photography.
RIO Rock in Opposition was edited by Tadej Pogačar. Interviews were conducted by Igor Bašin Bigor and Tadej Pogačar. The English translations were completed by Nataša Velikonja. The Slovenian text was proofread by Jelka Jamnik and Anja Grmovšek Drab. Photographs were provided by Marko Jenšterle, Matija Praznik, Aleš Gregl, Dušan Pirih Hup, and Bogo Pečnikar. The graphic design of the book was created by Ivian Kan Mujezinović. The book was printed by Matformat, with a circulation of 300 copies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the musicians and cultural workers who contributed to this book.
