7 – 26 February 2020
KAPSULA
You are kindly invited to the opening of the exhibition by Ana Lucija Šarić The Secret Agent at KAPSULA, on Friday, 7 February 2020 at 7 p.m.
Ana Lucija Šarić is completing her studies in graphic design, whereas her beginnings in artistic creativity are based in the medium of drawing. Her first solo exhibition presents the Untitled series (2016–present), a cycle of photographs documenting random encounters with a stranger. The baseline photo was taken randomly in front of the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana. Several random encounters followed, prompting the author to begin to systematically record and document these moments. In addition to the photograph, she each time wrote a note, indicating the time and location of the encounter and the reason why the artist was there.
If Ljubljana is not foreign to us, we can easily identify the locations where the photos were taken; in the marketplace, in front of the Town Hall, we recognize the street facades of the city centre, etc.
Through her secret documentation, Ana Lucija Šarić creates the subjective topography of a person she does not know who they are and what they are doing. In doing so, she asks herself various questions: What does this person have in common with me? Are we really connected only by places of random encounters? Who is following who?
The series is not completed and is open to new events and surprises. At the same time, the artist reflects on the strategy of urban activity, the movement in the city, the nature of the city, her own subjectivity and her relation to the unknown.
Ana Lucija Šarić (1994) is finishing her undergraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, her major being graphic design. Since 2014, she has exhibited in several group exhibitions. At the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts at the International Centre of Graphic Arts in 2015 (under the direction of New York artist Asad Raza), she co-created the art project Schema for a School, which was exhibited as part of the Over you / you biennial exhibition. In 2016, she participated in the exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design – ALUO LXX: Past, Present, Future at the Jakopič Gallery. She has also appeared in several student exhibitions, most recently in 2018 at the Gallery 7:069 S02E01 exhibition at Trubar Literature House.
